Smoky Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned
Once Summer is over I get in the mood for a different kind of cocktail. I like something that gives you that warm fuzzy feeling from your head to your toes. Well this maple bourbon old fashioned with it’s smoky yummy flavors will definitely do the trick.
Inspired by my friend Chuck, this Smoky Maple Bourbon drink will be enjoyed all season long.
This cocktail is a twist on the classic Whiskey Old Fashioned and uses both bourbon and smoky elements to elevate it to the next level.
It’s All About The Bourbon
Let’s dive into the heart of this drink: the bourbon. My friend Chuck is a bourbon guy. He has the ability to turn a simple drink into a masterpiece. Together, we put our heads together and came up with this amazing cocktail, and trust me, it’s a game-changer.
When it comes to crafting this cocktail, every detail matters. These Black Walnut Bitters and of course the Apple Liquid Smoke from Amazon are a must for this drink.
These fancy ice cube molds? Yep, Amazon too. You can find them at liquor stores or even your local grocery store as well.
If you are not going to make your own ice cubes, you will need to add two drops of the apple liquid smoke to your cocktail.
Maple Syrup Magic
Now, let’s talk maple syrup. Not just any syrup, though. You want to make sure to use a good quality syrup. It’s the key ingredient that brings this drink together.
My wonderful sister Laura gave me the smoky maple syrup from our favorite chef Erin French of the Lost Kitchen. Erin is super cool and if you don’t know of her look her up on Magnolia Network. (My sister also sent me a signed copy of her cookbook which I cherish!)
Using good maple syrup really does make a difference! Seriously, this stuff is liquid gold. It takes this cocktail to a whole new level.
Mixing Up the Magic
Alright, enough talk – let’s get mixing! Grab your large mixing glass and add in the maple syrup, bitters, liquid smoke, and a bit of water. Give it a good muddle to let those flavors mingle.
Toss in five ice cubes and pour in a couple of shots of your favorite bourbon. Chuck swears by Makers Mark – he’s got great taste, so I’m with him on this one. Gently stir it all up, and voila! Your perfect Smoky Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned is ready.
The Ice Cube Trick
Want to take this drink to the next level?
Infuse those ice cubes with even more smokiness. A couple of drops of apple liquid smoke in the ice cube molds – that’s all it takes.
As they melt, they release their smoky flavor into the drink, giving you an even more intense experience.
The Grand Finale
Time for the big moment. Get yourself an old fashioned glass and pop in one of those special ice cubes.
Now, grab your strainer and pour that flavor-packed concoction over the ice. It’s like a work of art in a glass.
But wait, we’re not done. Take a twist of orange peel and give it a little twist over the glass.
You’ll see the oils spray out, adding a subtle hint of citrus. Now it’s ready to drink!
Enjoy!
And there you have it – your very own Smoky Maple Bourbon Old fashioned. It’s not just a drink; it’s a vibe, a feeling, a taste of Fall in every sip.
Picture this: you, your drink, and a cozy evening by the fire.
Whether it’s with friends, family, or just your four-legged buddy, this cocktail turns any evening into something special.
So go ahead and savor the flavors of the season, one sip at a time. Cheers to Fall! 🍁🥃
