Classic Whiskey Smash

Sharing is caring!

Father’s Day is approaching and maybe you’re trying to plan your day. If you’re planning on staying home and spoiling your man, this is a wonderful way to do so. The Whiskey Smash is an excellent blend of good whiskey with a little citrus and a hint of mint. So delicious and sure to impress that special guy in your life.

The Whiskey Smash has been around since the 1880s. It’s similar to the Mint Julep, but I think it is much tastier.

The key to making a good smash is to have a muddler!

Muddling the lemon and then adding the mint was made a legend by bartender Dale DeGroff, who is known for his incredible cocktails and ability to make legendary drinks.

Enhancing Your Whiskey Experience

So besides serving an iconic cocktail, another cool way to impress is to use Whiskey Stones.

Whiskey Stones are stainless steel cubes that are kept frozen and used to replace ice cubes.

For the whiskey connoisseur, this would be the perfect gift because when you use Whiskey Stones you never dilute your precious whiskey. Not only are they super cool, but they are so practical and can be used for other cocktails as well.

They are reasonably priced, making them a wonderful Father’s Day gift! Can you imagine sipping on this refreshing Whiskey Smash in your very own whiskey lounge?

Preparing the Whiskey Smash

To mix this cocktail it just takes mere minutes. You just slice a large lemon into three or so slices and muddle this well in the bottom of your shaker or glass with 1/2 Oz of Simple Syrup.

When you muddle, you’re releasing all the oils from not only the citrus but from the peels as well. You then add a generous amount of mint leaves and then your whiskey.

Top off your shaker with ice and shake it aggressively so that you can combine all these flavors. You then want to strain this mixture over a fine-meshed sieve into your cocktail glass.

Simple Syrup Made Easy

Before we move on to the final addition, you should know that Simple Syrup is easily made at home with just equal parts of Sugar and Water.

You can make up a batch and keep it in the fridge for a couple of weeks. Simple Syrup is also sold at liquor stores, but it’s so easy and quick to make I would definitely make it at home.

The Finishing Touches

So now is when you’ll really impress by adding your super cool Whiskey Stones and garnishing with a sprig of mint and a slice of lemon.

Your guy is sure to be wowed by your whiskey finesse and the taste of this incredible cocktail!
