The Blue-Eyed Cicada Cocktail
If you’re one of the “lucky” people who are in a state that’s getting bombarded by the Cicada Revolution, you are in for a treat! The warm weather brings more and more out, so it’s just beginning!
This is a historic year because two different broods of cicadas are emerging simultaneously for the first time in more than 220 years!
Well, I say that calls for a celebration, and what’s a better way to celebrate than to give this occasion its own special cocktail?! The Blue-Eyed Cicada!
This cocktail is designed to honor the unique and rare blue-eyed cicadas. Blue Eyed Cicadas are one in a million, so this cocktail is sure to fit the bill because it’s that yummy!
They say you can get paid for a blue cicada, which is not true, so if you’re lucky enough to find one, you should celebrate and make yourself this incredible drink to honor that special bug!
Inspired by my son Michael and his friend Adam, who are surrounded by these little creatures all day during their landscaping work, I decided to create a cocktail that mirrors the cicadas’ unique colors. Let’s dive into the recipe!
The Inspiration Behind the Blue-Eyed Cicada
My son Michael does landscaping with his friend Adam, so they are surrounded by these little creatures all day. Adam came up with the idea for me to do a cocktail in their honor!
So, that’s how the idea of the Blue Cicada was born. I fashioned this cocktail after the colors of a Cicada. The brown from the espresso is like their shell, and the blueberries signify their blue eyes.
Don’t get alarmed by the name because there are no bugs in this cocktail, just a delicious combination of Tequila, Espresso, White Creme de Menthe, and a little Half & Half.
I rimmed the glass in a combo of cocoa, cinnamon, and sugar and also sprinkled it over the top because it pairs so nicely with the flavors of the drink!
