Sharing is caring!

My Vodka Lemonade Slush is one of the best drinks I make. This drink is fun, delicious, refreshing, easy to make, and intoxicating! So how can this wonderful drink be any better? Dress it up for the 4th of July and add a little more booze, that’s how! Introducing the Patriotic Vodka Slush!

What could be more perfect to drink and serve on the 4th than an ice-cold frozen concoction that is red, white, and blue?!

This cocktail looks complicated but it’s super easy because the base is just the easy peasy Lemonade Slush recipe. To make the colors, you just add a bit more booze, simple syrup, or food coloring.

For the Patriotic Vodka Slush

  • 1 can frozen lemonade
  • 3/4 can vodka
  • Ice
  • 1 oz strawberry simple syrup per drink
  • 1/2 oz blue curacao per drink

For the Strawberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries

  • Blender
  • Pan (if making Strawberry Simple Syrup)

You can buy pre-made strawberry simple syrup at grocery and liquor stores.

Making the Strawberry Simple Syrup

  1. Bring one cup of water to a boil and add one cup of sugar. Mix well to dissolve the sugar over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 cups of sliced strawberries and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened about 15 minutes. Smush the strawberries as they are cooking.
  3. Once the mixture is thickened and the berries have cooked down, strain through a fine mesh sieve and store in an airtight container for about 2 weeks in the fridge.

Making the Patriotic Vodka Slush

  1. Pour the frozen can of lemonade into the blender.
  2. Fill the can 3/4 of the way with vodka and add to the blender.
  3. Fill the blender to the top with ice and blend until slushy and thick.
  4. Scoop out 1/3 of the vodka mixture and add 1/2 oz of blue curacao to one inch of the vodka mixture per glass. If you’re making a big batch, add about 2 oz to the 1/3 of the mixture.
  5. Top each glass with one inch of plain vodka mixture.
  6. Add 1 oz per glass of strawberry simple syrup or about 4 oz to the remaining vodka mixture. Top off each glass with the red layer.

Tips for a Perfect Patriotic Vodka Lemonade Slush

  • Coloring Layers: Use strawberry simple syrup for the red layer and blue curacao for the blue layer. The middle layer is just the base drink.
  • Serving: To make the drink for a crowd, you need to be a bit organized to prevent it from melting. A large blender full should yield about 6 medium-sized drinks.
