Cold Crab dip

Sharing is caring!

There are plenty of Cold Crab Dip recipes out there, but I have to say mine is superior to the rest…LOL! It really is a darn tasty dip with a rich, savory seafood flavor that’s perfectly balanced with fresh lemon, herbs, and just the right amount of spice.

What makes this dip stand out is that I skip the imitation crab and use the real thing. You don’t have to splurge on fresh crab meatโ€”canned lump crab works wonderfullyโ€”but using real crab gives this dip the authentic seafood flavor that makes it so irresistible.

Whether you’re serving it for a holiday gathering, game day, girls’ night, or simply enjoying it on a Friday evening with a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc, this creamy seafood dip always disappears fast.

Why You’ll Love This

This Cold Crab Dip checks all the boxes for an easy appetizer.

  • Ready in just 10 minutes
  • Made with real crab meat
  • Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor
  • Perfect for making ahead
  • Great for holidays, parties, and entertaining
  • Pairs beautifully with crackers, veggies, or toast points

Ingredients You’ll Need

One reason I love this recipe is that most of the ingredients are pantry and refrigerator staples.

You’ll need cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, Old Bay seasoning, celery, scallions, and of course plenty of crab meat.

The fresh lemon brightens the richness of the dip while Old Bay brings that classic seafood flavor that pairs perfectly with crab.

How to Make It

Once you’ve decided on your crab, the rest is easy peasy.

Start by bringing the cream cheese to room temperature. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream until smooth and creamy.

Add the lemon zest and juice along with the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and Old Bay seasoning.

Mix until everything is well combined.

Next, stir in the diced celery and chopped scallions.

Then gently fold in the crab meat. Be careful not to overmixโ€”you want to keep those beautiful chunks of crab intact.

Once everything is incorporated, transfer the dip to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives.

Tips for the Best Results

A few simple tips can take this dip from good to fabulous:

  • Use softened cream cheese for the smoothest texture.
  • Fresh lemon zest adds a ton of flavor.
  • Fold the crab in gently to maintain texture.
  • Chill for 30 minutes before serving if time allows.
  • Use real crab whenever possible.

One reason I feel this recipe tastes so much better than many others is because it doesn’t rely on imitation crab. Real crab delivers a richer, more savory seafood flavor without the overly sweet taste that imitation products can have.

What to Serve With Cold Crab Dip

My favorite way to serve this dip is with a good ole Ritz Cracker.

If you’re feeling a little fancy, it also pairs perfectly with:

  • Toast points
  • Crostini
  • Assorted crackers
  • Cucumber slices
  • Bell pepper strips
  • Celery sticks
  • A fresh veggie platter

For a seafood-themed appetizer spread, pair this dip with my Crab Toast Delights, Crab Cake Bites, or homemade Crab Rangoon. The combination creates an impressive menu that’s perfect for entertaining.

When to Serve It

This is one of those recipes that works for almost any occasion.

It’s perfect for:

And honestly, it’s just as good enjoyed as a casual Friday night dinner with crackers and a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
