Edamame Dip
Move over Hummus, there’s a new girl in town and her name is Edamame Dip!
This fresh and yummy dip is low in calories, full of great flavor, and served just like hummus. It has a wonderful mix of salty, sweet and savory umami, and bright acidity that makes every bite light, bright, and fabulous.

Why You’ll Love This
If you’re looking for something different that’s not loaded with a thousand calories, this is your answer.
This Edamame Dip has an Asian flair, which makes it a little different from the rest. Edamame is delicious, but let’s face it, it doesn’t have a lot of flavor on its own — until now!
This dip hits all the bases with brightness from the citrus and unique umami flavors that will delight your senses.
It’s quick, easy, and delicious, which are my three favorite qualities in anything I make!
Ingredients You’ll Need
The base of this dip is frozen shelled edamame beans. You can find them in the frozen section of your grocery store.
Make sure you choose beans that are shelled, not in the pods!
To give the dip that salty, sweet & savory umami punch, you’ll add:
- Soy sauce
- Hoisin sauce
- Fish sauce
- Fresh ginger
- Sesame seed oil
- Garlic
- Fresh lemon juice
- Lemon zest
- Olive oil
- Reserved bean water
That fresh lemon juice and lemon zest are what give this dip the brightness it needs.

How to Make Edamame Dip
You have to boil the edamame beans first to make them nice and soft. This is what helps create that creamy dip texture.
Boil the beans for a good six minutes. Right before they are done cooking, reserve about 1/3 cup of the bean water.
That reserved water goes right into the food processor with the cooked edamame and all those delicious Asian flavors. Add a generous 1/4 cup of olive oil, give everything a good whirl, and you’re just minutes away from your new favorite dip.

Tips for the Best Results
Juice your lemon first, then use the same lemon to get about a teaspoon of zest.
Don’t skip the reserved bean water. It helps make the dip creamy and smooth without making it heavy.
I choose not to make this spicy. I did add a generous amount of fresh ground pepper, so it does have a little spice.
You could easily make it spicy by adding either cayenne pepper or sriracha sauce, but I personally like it better the way it is because you can really taste the different flavors.
What to Serve With It
Serve this Edamame Dip with pita crackers, sesame crackers, and an array of fresh veggies for an interesting and beautiful spread.
It’s fresh, colorful, and perfect for dipping.

When to Serve It
Mix this up for Mom or yourself this Mother’s Day, or honestly, any day!
It’s a great appetizer when you want something lighter, brighter, and a little unexpected. It feels special without being fussy.
Final Thoughts
This Edamame Dip is your new favorite substitute for hummus. It’s creamy, fresh, full of Asian flavors, and has that perfect pop of lemon and lemon zest.
Happy dipping!
