Pizza Dough
- 2 Cups OO Flour
- 1 1/4 Cups Regular Flour
- 1 Packet Quick Rise Yeast
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Sugar
- 1 3/4 Warm Water (100-115 degrees, which is warm to touch but not steaming)
Homemade Pizza Dough: The Secret Ingredient
My homemade pizza dough is so easy to make and makes all the difference in the taste. So, if you’re out to impress, take the extra time to make your own dough. If you’re short on time, you can always skip this step and buy pre-made dough from the store.
The Perfect Pizza Dough
The key to a good pizza dough is to use a combination of OO flour and AP flour. You also add a little sea salt to this dry mixture.
You need to use warm water but not too hot to kill your yeast. It should read around 100 – 115 degrees, which is hot to the touch but not steaming.
Dissolve your yeast in the warm water and add a teaspoon of sugar, which helps the yeast to bloom. Let this rest for 5-10 minutes before adding to your flour.
Once you’ve gotten this mixed well, you want to put it covered in a warm spot to rise. This process takes about an hour or so.
Preparing the Dough
Use a large parchment-lined sheet drizzled in olive oil and a little cornmeal.
Flour your hands and push the dough out in a long rectangle shape that is rounded at the top to look like the head and body of a mummy.
Assembling the Mummy Stromboli Pizza
I used Pastorelli Pizza Sauce, but normally I just use crushed tomatoes with garlic, oregano, and basil. Make the sauce heavier down the middle because the sides are just for wrapping.
Sprinkle on some romano, then your shredded cheese only down the middle of his body. I used one bag, which is 2 cups. Then, I put on pepperoni and thinly sliced onions.
Once you have your toppings added, it’s time to wrap the mummy. Make one inch wide slices on either side of his body and wrap back and forth down the body to look like the bandages. Super easy and so cute.
A Spooky Garnish
To complete the spooky appearance of your mummy stromboli, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Get creative with these garnishes:
- Eerie Eyes: Cut the ends off green olives and place them on top of the pepperoni slices to create the eyes. Add two ends of the black olives to make the center of the eyes.
- Creepy Crawlers: Cut black olives in half to make the spider bodies, then make small slices to use as their legs. These spiders will give your mummy a touch of arachnid flair.
- Stitches and Scars: Cut thin rounds of pepper from the top end of your long green pepper and slice them into half-moons. Use these to create stitches on the mummy’s “scars.” Slice the remaining pepper into long strips to make the scars and place three “stitches” on each scar.
- Frightening Fangs: Cut a long piece of red pepper to look like sharp teeth and place it under the eyes to give your mummy a ghoulish grin.
Baking Your Mummy Stromboli Pizza
After the fun part of assembling your mummy-shaped stromboli, it’s time to bake this Halloween masterpiece. Here’s how to finish off your delicious creation:
- Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure it’s nice and hot for the perfect bake.
- Bake Your Mummy: Place your mummy stromboli in the preheated oven and let it bake for 25-30 minutes or until it’s lightly browned. The aroma in your kitchen will be simply irresistible.
Enjoying Your Mummy Stromboli Pizza
Once your mummy stromboli is out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. You’ll be greeted with a delicious, cheesy delight that’s perfect for sharing with friends and family. So, gather around and enjoy this fun Halloween treat together while making spooky memories that will last forever.
