Fall Apple Cider Bourbon Punch

Sharing is caring!

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I am a super planner! If I’m hosting an event or having a dinner party, I start planning my menu weeks in advance…lol.

There’s a lot that goes into planning the perfect holiday, and that includes not only the food but your cocktails as well.

This is exactly why I love a punch for the holidays.

You can do almost everything ahead of time, it looks beautiful, and your guests can help themselves.

This Fall Apple Cider Bourbon Punch has all those cozy fall flavors with apple cider, cranberry, orange and bourbon, plus Champagne for a little sparkle.

Perfect party cocktail in my book!

Why You’ll Love This Fall Punch

Punches are so versatile. You can serve them in a punch bowl or a pitcher, and almost all of the time you can make them the night before, which is crucial for me.

If you’re having a group over and doing a lot of cooking, a punch bowl is really cool to have as a centerpiece. Your company can help themselves, which means one less thing for you to worry about once everyone arrives.

A pitcher can certainly suffice as well. Set it out with garnished glasses and a bucket of pretty ice cubes, and everyone can pour their own drink.

And this punch just tastes like fall. You have bourbon, apple cider, cranberry juice and orange juice, then a bottle of Champagne lightens everything up and gives it a bit of sparkle.

Ingredients You’ll Need

The flavors here are really simple, but they work so well together.

You’ll need:

  • Bourbon â€“ gives the punch that warm flavor that works so well with apple cider.
  • Apple cider â€“ this makes up the base of the punch and gives it its real fall flavor.
  • Cranberry juice â€“ adds a little tartness and beautiful color.
  • Orange juice â€“ just enough citrus to brighten everything up.
  • Brut Champagne â€“ the fun addition! It lightens the punch and gives everything some bubbles.
  • Apples, oranges and cranberries â€“ for making everything pretty.
  • Cinnamon sticks and star anise â€“ pretty garnishes that also fit right in with all those fall flavors.

You can also use Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer instead of Champagne. The ginger flavor goes excellent with this combination.

Make It Ahead for an Easy Holiday

This is really where a punch wins for me.

You can combine the bourbon, apple cider, cranberry juice and orange juice the night before and keep everything refrigerated. You can even slice your fruit ahead of time and keep it in a separate container.

Just do not add the Champagne yet. Save the bubbles for right before serving.

If you’re serving the punch in a bowl, pour in the Champagne shortly before your guests arrive.

If you’re using a pitcher, I think it’s fun to put the bottle of Champagne on ice next to it and let everyone top off their own glass.

Easy peezy, your guests will love it, it tastes delicious and, most importantly, it makes your life really easy!

Make a Fall Ice Ring

Now let’s talk about this ice ring because it really makes the punch bowl!

Ice rings are super impressive and very easy to make. All you need is a Bundt pan or Jello mold.

I filled mine with apples, oranges, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and star anise. You can arrange everything around the mold however you like because it’s almost impossible for this not to look pretty.

Here’s the key: fill your mold with juice instead of water.

I use cranberry juice. That way, as the ice ring melts, it won’t dilute your cocktail.

You can make the ice ring way ahead of time, too. Once it’s completely frozen, just keep it in the freezer until the day of your party.

Then place the frozen ring right into the punch bowl before serving. It keeps your punch nice and cold, looks beautiful floating on top and means you don’t have to worry about putting out a bunch of ice cubes.

Or Make Pretty Fruit Ice Cubes

If you’re going with the pitcher presentation, make individual ice cubes instead.

These are another thing you can make weeks ahead of time if you want.

Cut the apple and orange into small pieces, add a few cranberries to each section of your ice mold and freeze.

I also added edible flowers to some of mine because, well, I like to go all out!

Put the frozen cubes in a bowl next to your pitcher so guests can add them to their glasses.

Don’t Skip the Pumpkin Spice Sugar Rim

When I’m hosting a holiday, I have to say I do like to go all out! I set my table ahead of time, have fresh flowers around the house and definitely garnish the glasses.

After all, holidays come only once a year, so you might as well give it your all!

For this punch, I rimmed the glasses with turbinado sugar mixed with pumpkin pie spice. It really adds a nice flavor and looks so pretty.

You can run an orange slice around the rim first, or pour a little apple cider into a shallow dish and dip the rim into that. Then dip the glass into your pumpkin spice sugar.

You can even garnish the glasses the night before so they’re completely ready to go.

Punch Bowl or Pitcher?

Both work beautifully, so I would choose based on the kind of party you’re having.

For a larger holiday gathering, I love the punch bowl. It becomes part of the table, especially with that beautiful ice ring floating in the middle. Put your garnished glasses around it and let everybody help themselves.

For a smaller gathering or dinner party, the pitcher is easy and just as pretty. Add sliced apples, oranges, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and star anise right to the pitcher.

Set your prepared glasses nearby along with your fruit ice cubes. You can either add the bubbly to the pitcher immediately before serving or let everyone top off their own drink.

Champagne, Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer

If you’re making this for a holiday, you may want to lighten up on the booze.

Champagne adds a little more alcohol, but you can easily substitute good old Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer. I really like the idea of ginger here because that flavor goes excellent with apple, cranberry, orange and all those warm fall spices.

If you skip the Champagne, you could certainly up the bourbon a little bit, but we don’t want Grandma face planting in her cranberry sauce, so that’s up to you. 😂

For a pitcher presentation, little bottles of Ginger Beer would also look really cute sitting around the pitcher so everyone can add their own.

Perfect for Thanksgiving and Fall Gatherings

This is one of those drinks that can make entertaining look like you did a ton of work when you really did most of it days—or even weeks—ahead.

Make your ice ring or craft ice cubes weeks ahead. Rim the glasses the night before. Mix the punch base ahead of time. Slice your garnishes and have them ready to go.

Then when your guests are about to arrive, all you really have to do is add the ice ring and Champagne.

That’s my kind of holiday planning!
