French Onion Grilled Cheese Bites with Tomato Soup Shooter

A decadent grilled cheese of caramelized onions, Swiss & gruyere cheese. Serve this amazing bite with a shot glass shooter of your favorite tomato soup for the perfect combo on a cold day!

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Container Favorite Tomato Soup heated up according to directions
  • 2 Yellow Onions Sliced Thin
  • 1/4 Cup Red Wine
  • 1 TB Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 TB Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Sprigs Fresh Thyme and Salt and Pepper
  • 4 Slices Sourdough or Italian Bread buttered on each side
  • 6 Slices Swiss Cheese
  • 1 Cup Shredded Gruyere Cheese

Instructions
 

  • Melt unsalted butter and add onions and cook on med low for approx 45 minutes until they are a golden brown
  • Add wine, Worcestershire, thyme, salt and pepper and cook an additional ten minutes until the wine has cooked down and the onions are a deep brown color
  • Assemble your sandwich by buttering each side of the bread and placing 2 -3 slices of Swiss Cheese, the layering with the caramelized onions then topping either with additional Swiss cheese or shredded Gruyere Cheese then the other slice of bread
  • Cook on med low this a nice golden brown then continue the same on the other side
  • Heat your soup and pour into shot glasses
  • Cut the grilled cheese in triangles and serve each triangle with a shooter of tomato soup
