Day of the Dead Hummus Tray

An incredible display of hummus in the shape of a sugar skull. Don't let this scare you because it's super easy to do just take your time and have fun creating your version of this beautiful appetizer for your Halloween of Day of the Dead celebration!

Equipment

  • 1 Large Board or tray A black tray adds a cool backdrop for the eyes
  • 2 Shot glasses or small round glasses Place them first, shaping hummus around for the eyes

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Containers Plain or Garlic Hummus
  • 1/4 Cup Pepitos Around the eyes
  • 1/4 Cup Sliced Almonds For the teeth
  • 6 Radishes Sliced to look like roses
  • 6 Slices Cucumbers To put under roses
  • 1/4 Chick Peas To adorn throughout the face
  • 3-5 Cranberries To use as center for flowers
  • 1/2 Carrot thinly slices from small end To use as petals for the cranberry flowers
  • 1 Thinly sliced red or orange pepper To use on cheeks
  • 1 Small Bunch of fresh oregano, parsley, pea tendrils, To use to fill in flowers or around the face
  • 2 Tops of green onions sliced as thin as possible and soaked in ice water for ten minutes or more so they curl up Put curls at the top in the flowers or around the mouth
  • 2 Ex Large Black Olives To use for nose

Instructions
 

  • Place shot glasses as the eyes and full in hummus between and around in the shape of a sugar skull.
  • Carefully pull shot glasses straight up and remove to form the eyes
  • Cut olive in half and shape to make nose
  • Thinly slice green onions as thin as you possibly can and put in ice bath so they curl up to use around the flowers. Let soak for entire time you are assembling the hummus skull
  • Slice 6 cucumber slices and put at the top of the skull
  • Use a slicer to get radish roses or cut them yourself with a paring knife or a vegetable peeler. You may want to practice this step prior to starting
  • Place roses on top of cucumbers and adorn with fresh herbs and the curly green onion tops
  • Put pepitos around the eyes
  • Use sliced almonds to make the teeth
  • Use cranberries and sliced carrots to make a flower on the chin and adorn with chick peas by the flower and on the cheeks
  • Put out bowls of carrots and veggies or pita breads to enjoy with your masterpiece
