Use Leftover Cranberry Sauce
Did you by chance make cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving? If you’re anything like me you made too much and hardly anyone ate it and now you have a huge bowl you don’t know what to do with. Well here is the perfect answer for your dilemma..make a cranberry baked brie!
Ingredients
- 1 Round Brie Cheese
- 1 Sheet Puff Pastry (found in the frozen section and thawed according to package instructions)
- 1/4 Cup Chopped Walnuts or Pecans
- 1/2 Cup Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce (homemade or from a can)
Equipment
- 1 Baking Sheet
- 1 Star Cookie Cutter
Instructions
1. Preparing the Puff Pastry
Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to the package instructions. Once thawed, place it on a lightly floured surface.
2. Preparing the Brie
Place the Brie wheel in the center of the pastry sheet. Cut off the corners to form a circle around the Brie. Lightly cut away some of the rind from all sides of the Brie circle.
3. Creating the Star Shape
Using a star cookie cutter, cut out a star shape from the middle of the traced circle. Ensure the star is not too large, leaving enough pastry for a delicious crust.
4. Adding the Toppings
Top the Brie with 1/4 cup of chopped nuts, followed by a layer of cranberry sauce. Opt for the thicker sauce with whole cranberries, avoiding excess liquid.
5. Encasing the Brie
Place the pastry over the Brie, ensuring the star is centered. Tuck the edges of the pastry under the Brie to completely encase the cheese.
6. Preparing for Baking
If not baking immediately, wrap the prepared Brie in plastic and refrigerate for a day or two. Before baking, bring it to room temperature. Brush the Brie with a beaten egg for a beautiful finish.
7. Baking
Place the Brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
8. Serving
Before serving, ensure the star shape is intact and as desired. Serve the baked Brie surrounded by crackers or vegetables.
